President Bush names Cornhuskers to the Axis of Evil

Tiger baseball begins the Big XII season this weekend by traveling to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Big Red is not quite as big and mighty this year as in recent years. Could be a good opportunity for MU to take the series on their home turf.

from CornNation.com: The Husker baseball team pulled out 3-2 a win over Western Illinois this afternoon, but that’s about all it was - a win. This team is not where it should be at this point in the season, and if continue to play like this it’s going to be a very disappointing season for the Big Red.

It took a sacrifice fly by Jeff Tezak in the bottom of the ninth inning for Nebraska to win the game, and that happened only after Western Illinois committed an error to set up Mitch Abeita’s game-winning score. You can take into account that mid-week games against lesser opponents are a chance to get your younger players some action, but the fact that Nebraska isn’t playing well isn’t lost on head coach Mike Anderson "We got a win, but I can’t wait to see this team start playing some good baseball." Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson said. "I’m going to be more impressed when they start playing good baseball than when they’re just getting wins. We got a win today, but we didn’t play well. There were a lot of little mental mistakes, a lot of little things that we keep teaching. We should have gotten a few more runs across, and we should have saved a few more runs, but I liked our effort and the fact that we figured out a way to win a baseball game." I like how Anderson emphasizes the positive in his statement, but Western Illinois is not a team that should be giving the Huskers fits. Their RPI is currently at 188 out of 293 teams, their record now stands at 11-11. A hot Missouri comes to town this weekend. If Nebraska expects to contend for a Big 12 title, the ‘good baseball’ needs to start showing up soon.
