- Mizzou Softball was eliminated from the Big XII championships with a 7-1 Saturday thumping at the hands of OU. As far as I can tell, I guess they earned a 3-seed in yesterday's NCAA selections. They will travel to Carbondale this weekend to play host SIU (the assumed 2-seed). The other matchup in the Carbondale region is DePaul (the overall #14 seed in the tournament) versus Mississippi Valley State. If the Tigers make it out of the region, it appears they'll play the winner of the Amherst regional...likely OU. Which sucks.
- Another freshman carried Mizzou Baseball yesterday. A week after freshman Trevor Coleman's 2 HR's helped take down Texas, Aaron Senne's 6 RBI's made the difference in a 10-8 victory over OU, giving Mizzou yet another conference series victory--their 10th in 11 tries this season. They're now 2 games behind Texas, meaning they need to win at least two of three in Stillwater next weekend while hoping Texas gets swept. That, or sweep OSU and hope Texas loses 2 of 3. Not likely. It's been fun, though, watching this team go from 'pitching carries offense' to 'offense shoulders its own load' throughout the season as Priday got his bat going and the freshmen grew in confidence. With Aaron Crow, a strong bullpen rolling along, and an offense not predicated on just 1-2 players, this team is built for the postseason. Here's to hoping they can duplicate last season's postseason success--and this time not as a 4-seed in the NCAA's.
- And finally, here's a fantastic team-by-team write-up of Big XII spring football...you know...if my own write-ups weren't good enough for you...
